Aleutia Computers have partnered up with their Dev House neighbours and fellow geeks at GreenNet, a unique not-for-profit ISP founded in 1983 making it not only the oldest, but also the only collective run ISP in the UK. GreenNet Ltd. is owned by the GreenNet Educational Trust which will be administering the Asante Social Broadband Fund. While a significant portion of the monthly charge is the cost of wholesale broadband, GreenNet receives a small fixed fee for managing and supporting ASB's users, the remaining profits go directly into a fund managed by GET. The net profits will then be paid directly to telecoms providers in Africa, who we have started negotiating with, to provide connectivity to remote schools. ASB is structured in this way to guarantee the funds will go as close to direct from you-to-school as possible. By minimising and fixing operational costs, and negotiating a great wholesale broadband cost we ensure that the same amount is contributed every month.

Michael and Sharif (Aleutia co-founders) are ASB's first Flock users enjoying between 6Mbps - 8Mbps broadband speeds at their homes in South and East London respectively. While many broadband providers claim speeds of 'up to 20Mbps', we are completely honest about the maximum speeds you can enjoy in your area, just call 0844-ALEUTIA or GreenNet on 0845 055 4011 and we'll run a test and give you instant results. The Aleutia Computers facility in Earlsfield is also connected by Asante Broadband and the first Pride user.

Like with any social project or service, the more users that sign up to Asante Social Broadband the better! While we have negotiated a great rate on wholesale broadband this rate will decrease once we reach 1000 users, and continue to decrease as we grow beyond that. Since our operational costs are fixed more of your donation will go directly towards funding Internet Connectivity in schools that need it most, and not into running expensive advertising campaigns or sponsoring pop concerts. While any marketing costs are carried by Aleutia Computers, most of our marketing is free and relies on the community driven through blogs, word of mouth, and most of all you, our potential users and supporters and people who want to make a difference.
