Aleutia: The corporate IT market is pretty crowded - why didyou choose Aleutia PCs over more well-known brands?
Geo: Most of the market leading PC manufacturers adopt a“one-size-ts-all” approach and a fast-paced and quickly expanding company like us struggle to find a good solution for our unique internal requirements. Following inputs from the board of directors, when I joined the company as IT Manager I set up two milestones:
1. As a Carbon Neutral® company we had to reduce the power consumption of our PCs
2. Due to the nature of our business we only require "bruteforce" CPU power on our Macintosh installation base
Two problems with other manufacturers were:
1. Power consumption of typical PCs in excess of 80 Watts
2. PC specifications greater than we needed and priced accordingly
I approached Aleutia because of their low power consumption PCs. They listened to our requirements and proactivelyproposed a solution that matched exactly our needs in terms of power consumption, price, form factor and CPU power. This approach made them a win for our business.
Aleutia: How have our unique PCs helped your organisationover the last 2 years?
Geo: Our company grew from 80 users over two floors of ourbuilding to 270 users spread across four floors here in London and three branches abroad (Madrid, Amsterdam, Munich). Having compact, easy to move PCs has been a massive logistics plus, as it helped us move working desks around quickly and reduce shipping costs. A standardised line of PCs helped us create and maintain OS and Software installation images.
Aleutia: We prepared a custom Untangle server for your remote office. Can you tell us a bit more about that project?
Geo: More than a custom server here we are talking about an entirenetwork infrastructure in a box. We needed to open a branch oce inMadrid with the following requirements:Active Directory (10 to 20 users)- File storage- Budget in the £5000 range- 2 week deadline to have the infrastructure up and runningProblems to solve- We did not know if the branch oce was going to be permanent ortemporary.- Oces were hosted at our client's location, so it was not possible toinstall a standardised rack solutionI already had an idea on how to implement a portable solutionand I discussed it with Aleutia.
The next day they came back with an "Ok, we can do it" and started tobuild and congure it. The result was a custom ight case containing twoservers ( Untangle rewall, domain controller, storage and printer server),UPS, network switch, KVM, and rackmount monitor that powered ouroce in Madrid for the rst year. Due to the current economic climate inSpain we reduced the workload there and thanks to the exibility of thissolution we simply moved the box to Amsterdam. This solution is nowpowering our Dutch operations.
In September, 2011 DAD’s rapid growth and innovative work was rewarded when it was acquired by Sapient Nitro.
