The premise of the U6 is simple: take a powerful PC, load it up with video cards and Userful’s Multiplier software and then you can share that server with 6 simultaneous users. That way you get a “per seat” cost of just £70 and power consumption of just 17 Watts. Cheaper and more energy efficient than using stand alone PCs.

The U6 is powered by the new X2 250 processor from AMD: 2 x 3.0 GHz. That’s paired with 3 Nvidia video cards and 4GB of high-speed RAM. All that horsepower translates to snappy performance even with 6 users at the same time. And if just 3 or even 2 users are on the U6, they benefit from extraordinary performance that wouldn’t be possible with individual thin clients or netbooks.

Includes Licenses, Hubs, and Cables

The U6 comes with 6 Userful Multiplier Licenses (cost $59 each) that we pre-install and activate for you. And we include 6 Userful-branded Hubs that sit beneath each monitor and offer 3 USB ports as well as Audio In/Out, as well as 3 VGA extension cables, and 3 DVI to VGA adapter cables. Everything you need for set up.

Userful Multiplier runs on top of Ubuntu (or Edubuntu). So the OS those 6 students or kiosk users are accessing is the world’s favourite distribution of Linux: Ubuntu 9.04.

Just 90 Watts

Thanks to all those video cards, the U6 is going to use a lot of power. But thanks to an energy efficient CPU and a laptop hard drive, we’ve managed to keep it at 90W, which is less than a typical HP or Dell office PC serving one user. With the ability to support 6 simultaneous users, the U6 is extremely energy efficient.

Despite supporting 6 Users, the U6 is the size of a standard Small Form Factor office PC. It’s not even a full-size tower. That keeps shipping costs to remote areas low.

Note the 3 Video Cards on the right-hand side. Onboard video is disabled as the Nvidia cards produce better performance. Each U6 is supplied with 3 x 2 meter DVI to VGA cables that let you connect standard VGA monitors to the DVI ports.
